When my son Daniel asked me to care for his newborn Lucas, just as I had for my older son Michael’s daughter, I felt conflicted. I’d already raised Michael’s daughter, Emma, when her mother left, and while that experience was rewarding, it was also exhausting. Now, Daniel and his wife Laura needed my help, and while I loved my grandson, I wasn’t sure I could take on full-time caregiving again.
